A strong windstorm swept through parts of Niger State on Monday and Tuesday and damaged or destroyed more than 1,000 houses.
The storm hit communities in Mokwa and Bida hardest. It also affected areas in Lavun, Katcha, Gbako, and Mariga local government areas.
Residents lost roofs, walls, and entire homes, which left thousands of people without shelter.
In Mokwa, the wind tore through places such as Sawmill, Kpege, Station Girigi, Tifin Madza, and Nasfat.
In Bida, it struck Cheniyan, Nasarafu, Bariki, Kyari, and nearby wards.
Families gathered what they could from the debris and now look for places to stay.
Niger State Emergency Management Agency teams have started assessments in the affected areas.
Officials say they will work with local authorities to provide support where it is needed most.
No deaths have been reported so far. Many families, however, face immediate problems with shelter, food, and daily needs after the storm passed.
This event comes weeks after earlier flooding in the same region, and residents now call for better preparation against such weather in the future.
