A windstorm swept through Jigawa State and killed seven people. Officials say it displaced more than 5,400 residents in 120 communities across 13 local government areas.
The storm struck shortly after the rainy season began.
It destroyed homes in many places. Ringim recorded the most victims with 1,182 people affected.
Dutse followed with 792, and other areas saw similar damage.
In addition, the winds damaged about 50 schools and health facilities along with two police stations.
An isolated flood in Miga also ruined more than 70 hectares of farmland.
State officials responded quickly. The government approved over N800 million for relief materials and now stocks them for distribution.
Hannafi Yakubu of the State Emergency Management Agency works with the National Emergency Management Agency to assess sites and coordinate aid.
The state government also called for support from the federal government, local councils, and partners to help the communities recover.
