Terrorists operating in Sabon Birni LGA of Sokoto State have set levies of N4 million to N6 million on each community.
They applied this measure across at least 26 villages.
Residents say the terrorists gave communities three days to make the payments before they can return to their farms.
The groups also require shares from future harvests and plan to collect similar levies every two to three months.
One resident explained that anyone who farms without payment faces direct consequences from the terrorists.
Local sources report that many people stopped work on their land during this period to meet the demand.
Police in the area say they have no official reports about these collections.
This situation has affected normal farming activities in the affected villages.
Communities continue to look for ways to manage the requirements while trying to maintain their fields.
