Iranian media says two missiles struck a US Navy vessel near Jask in the Strait of Hormuz on Monday.
Fars News Agency reported that the vessel ignored warnings from Iranian naval forces and violated shipping rules in the area.
The vessel then turned back and left the zone, according to the report.
US Central Command quickly denied the claim.
Officials stated that no US Navy ships faced any strikes during operations in the region.
They confirmed that forces continue to support Project Freedom, which aims to keep shipping routes open through the strait.
The incident comes on the first day of increased US efforts to guide vessels through the waterway.
The Strait of Hormuz carries around a quarter of the world’s seaborne oil, and tensions remain high after the naval blockade on Iranian ports began in April.
A senior Iranian official later told reporters that forces fired a warning shot, though it remains unclear if any damage occurred.
Both sides continue operations in the area as shipping companies watch developments closely.
So far, no independent confirmation of the events has emerged.
