Terrorists have taken the lives of 11 people in attacks on Jeka da Kolo and Kwalgoro, both in Kankia Local Government Area in Katsina State.
Residents say the terrorists struck in response to recent police operations against a group in the area.
Those operations disrupted cattle rustling attempts and led to the recovery of animals and motorcycles in nearby locations.
Police have strongly condemned the events.
Officers have now deployed teams to search for those responsible and have increased patrols across the area.
Authorities are also calling on local people to share any useful information through official emergency lines.
This latest violence comes after security forces reported successes against the terrorists.
Community leaders hope the increased presence of police will help restore calm in the affected villages.
