A Congolese woman destroyed her own salon equipment after a group of South Africans demanded she vacate the premises so a local could take over the business.
The woman, who says she is legally resident in South Africa, had invested over R120,000 (around $6,700+) in the hair salon.
According to reports, she attempted to negotiate compensation but rejected the group’s offer of roughly R10,000 after they disputed her valuation.
Video of the incident shows her ripping down mirrors, dragging furniture, and smashing fixtures while declaring she would rather destroy everything than let others benefit.
A crowd gathered outside as the confrontation unfolded amid broader anti-foreigner tensions in the area.
The event has drawn renewed attention to xenophobic pressures on foreign-owned small businesses in South Africa, where high unemployment fuels local grievances.
Authorities have not yet issued a detailed public response.
