The United States called on Nigeria’s government to identify the terrorists who killed nine members of Reverend Ezekiel Dachomo’s family in Plateau State.
Terrorists struck Kum community in Riyom Local Government Area on July 12.
They asked for Dachomo by name before they opened fire.
The victims included a two-month-old baby and other relatives.
Dachomo serves as regional chairman of the Church of Christ in Nations and has spoken out about violence in the area.
After the attack, the US Bureau of African Affairs issued a statement.
Officials condemned the killings and urged Nigerian authorities to bring the terrorists to justice.
The bureau also noted recent talks with Nigerian leaders about security in the Middle Belt.
Dachomo later said the terrorists targeted his family because of his criticism. He conducted a mass burial for the victims.
The US statement came days after the incident and stressed the need to protect communities from further attacks.
Nigerian officials have not yet released details on any arrests in the case.
