Kelvin Ochai escapes terrorists who held him after his abduction from the bishop’s residence in Asa III, Otukpo.
Terrorists seize the Otukpo Diocese seminarian on 29 July 2026.
He breaks free on the evening of 31 July. He reaches Aliade in Gwer East Local Government Area and reunites with his family. He remains unharmed.
Fr. Joseph Itodo, chancellor of the Catholic Diocese of Otukpo, confirms the escape in a statement. He credits the prayers of the faithful.
Bishop Michael Ekwoyi Apochi thanks priests, religious, lay faithful, and others who supported the effort.
He also thanks Fr. Vitalis Ioryue, parishioners of SS. Peter and Paul’s Parish in Aliade, and the police for the care they gave Ochai after his return.
The diocese continues to pray for others still held by terrorists across the country.
