Rescuers pulled Hernan Gil from a collapsed building in Catia La Mar today. The 43-year-old security guard spent eight days trapped after twin earthquakes struck Venezuela on June 24.
Teams from seven countries worked around the clock to reach him.
They sent water and oxygen through tubes while they dug a tunnel.
Gil’s wife called the rescue a miracle when crews brought him out alive.
The quakes caused more than 2,200 deaths and left thousands without homes.
Officials now shift focus to aid as many survivors face shortages of food and water.
Rescue efforts continue in other areas, but hope fades for finding more people alive under the debris.
