Terrorists shot a mother and her daughter dead in Igushin community along the Ala axis in Akure, Ondo State, on Thursday night.
The mother owned a poultry farm in the area.
Five terrorists entered the community and opened fire as they tried to abduct residents.
Residents heard the shots and ran for cover.
A short time later they heard cries from the family home and rushed there.
They found the mother and daughter shot dead inside.
Police later rescued two other people during a coordinated operation in the community.
The Ondo State Police Command confirmed the deaths and started investigations straight away.
Spokesperson Abayomi Jimoh said the command condemns the attack and called on residents to stay alert and share any useful information with security agencies.
The incident follows a string of similar attacks in Ondo communities over recent months.
Locals have held protests to press the government for better protection.
