The eastbound vehicle was travelling from Lagos towards the eastern part of the country when the incident happened in the morning.

Witnesses said the terrorists opened fire on the bus, which brought it to a halt.

The driver died at the scene. After that, the terrorists moved the passengers into the nearby bushes.

Reports suggest they took the group to an unknown location.

No one has released the exact number of those taken or their names so far.

This section of the expressway has seen similar problems in the past.

Travellers often worry about safety on major roads in the area, and many people now think twice before they make long journeys by bus.

Security forces have not yet given an official statement on the event.

People who saw what happened shared details quickly on social media, and the news spread fast across the country.

Families of those on the bus continue to wait for more information.

Many Nigerians hope the authorities will act quickly to bring everyone back safely and improve protection on the highway.
