Terrorists storm Torok village in Riyom LGA and kill former councillor Daniel Danjuma Chong late Sunday night.
The terrorists invade the community around 11:45 p.m. and open fire on residents. Many people hear the gunshots and run for safety.
After the attackers leave, residents return and find Chong with gunshot wounds.
He is popularly known as Hon. Star and previously served as councillor for Rim Ward.
Meanwhile, the terrorists also injure several others. One of them, David Danjuma, is now receiving medical treatment.
Resident Cynitha Dung later describes what happened.
“We heard heavy gunshots late in the night. Everyone ran for safety. By the time people came out, Hon. Daniel had been shot,” she says.
In response, the Berom Youth Moulders Association condemns the killing.
The group calls on security agencies to investigate the attack, arrest those responsible and strengthen security in vulnerable parts of Riyom.
In its statement, signed by National Publicity Secretary Rwang Tengwong, the association also urges authorities to check alleged criminal hideouts in the area.
Furthermore, it renews its call for a ban on open grazing.
The latest incident adds to growing concerns over repeated assaults on communities in Riyom LGA.
