Residents in Asaba witnessed a tense scene on 5 May when bystanders rushed a young man identified as Aboy Odili onto a motorcycle after he sustained injuries during an encounter with operatives from the Rapid Response Squad.
Videos shared widely on social media show people carrying the injured man, who appeared to have been hit in the back, as they moved him quickly towards medical care.
Witnesses link the event to the squad’s operations in the area that day.
This development comes just days after the widely reported case of Mene Ogidi in nearby Effurun.
In that incident on 26 April, officers took a 28-year-old man into custody following intelligence about a parcel containing a firearm.
Video footage showed him seated on the ground with his hands and legs restrained as he pleaded for his life before an officer discharged a weapon at close range.
The Nigeria Police Force later dismissed the lead officer, ASP Nuhu Usman, and other involved personnel, then handed them over for prosecution.
Many in Delta State have expressed concern over the pattern of events.
The Police Complaint Response Unit has called for details about the latest case and confirmed it has escalated the matter for investigation.
As of now, the Delta State Police Command has not issued a detailed statement on Aboy Odili’s situation, and his current condition remains unconfirmed by official sources.
Community members continue to call for thorough probes into these encounters to help restore confidence in security operations.
Authorities urge anyone with reliable information on the Asaba incident to come forward through proper channels.
The story is still developing as more details emerge from hospital or police updates.
