Four people lost their lives when a Golf Wagon plunged into Tomas Dam in Danbatta, Kano State, on Tuesday evening.
The vehicle, which carried ten people travelling from Kano to Jigawa State, left the road and entered the water.
Rescue teams from the Kano State Fire Service recovered all occupants from the submerged vehicle and took them to hospital, where four were confirmed dead.
Officials say a burst tyre appears to have caused the incident.
The director of the fire service has urged drivers to check their vehicles carefully before long journeys.
He also called on authorities to repair the dam embankment to prevent similar events.
Local responders worked quickly to reach the scene and bring everyone out of the water.
The surviving passengers received treatment at a nearby hospital.
This comes as road incidents continue to claim lives across the region, often linked to vehicle conditions and infrastructure challenges.
