Terrorists killed Muhammad Shuaibu, a trader at Dei-Dei Modern Market in Abuja, and his 19-year-old daughter Fatima after the family paid them N12 million in ransom.
The terrorists abducted Shuaibu and his daughters from their home in Zhidu community, Tafa Local Government Area of Niger State, on 3 October 2025.
A relative, who asked not to be named, said the group later demanded money in three instalments.
The family raised the funds by selling Shuaibu’s shop, his car and a sachet water production machine.
The relative explained that the terrorists first killed Fatima about three months ago.
They accused her of being stubborn while talks over the ransom continued.
The family paid the final N2 million instalment, but the terrorists then told the person who delivered the cash to go back.
They said Shuaibu had fallen ill in captivity and died.
The relative added that the terrorists even told the family to sell Shuaibu’s house to raise more money, but no buyer came forward.
Police in Niger State did not comment on the case.
