Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announces that Greece will ban social media access for children under 15 from 1 January 2027.
Mitsotakis makes the statement in a video he posts on TikTok.
He points to anxiety, sleep problems and the way platforms keep users scrolling as reasons for the step.
The ban forms part of wider efforts to limit screen time among young people.
The government already bars mobile phones from schools and offers tools that help parents control what teenagers see online.
Mitsotakis now calls on the European Union to set up the same rule across the bloc.
A poll from February shows that 80 per cent of Greeks support the measure.
The Greek Safer Internet Centre notes that 75 per cent of children on social media platforms are still at primary school age.
Australia brought in a similar ban for users under 16 in December.
Mitsotakis says Greece follows that path because the evidence on harm to mental health stands clear.
Parents in Greece report that they struggle to keep children off phones and apps.
The new law gives the state power to enforce the limit from the start of next year.
