Terrorists abducted heavily pregnant Mrs. Mary Jesulayomi from her home in Ayede, Akure North, Ondo State, while injuring a 90-year-old man.
Terrorists raided the quiet Ayede community late Tuesday evening, bursting into homes around 7:40 p.m. and seizing Mrs. Mary Jesulayomi, who visited an elderly couple at the time.
They also grabbed the 85-year-old wife of Pa Ogunleye Mese, but released her unharmed moments later, leaving her husband with severe injuries from the assault.
Pa Mese, a 90-year-old resident, recounted the horror: “They came to my house here, they wanted to kidnap me but I managed to escape.
They initially abducted my wife and the pregnant woman who came to see me.”
This attack marks the third kidnapping in Akure North within just four days, intensifying fears among locals.
Earlier incidents included the abduction of a school proprietress in Ilu-Abo, where terrorists stormed the area and left residents in panic.
Meanwhile, communities like Ilu-Abo have seen protests erupt, with youths blocking roads to demand better protection from recurring nighttime invasions.
In response, the Ondo State Police Command swiftly deployed anti-kidnapping units to comb surrounding forests for the victim.
Police Public Relations Officer Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya confirmed the details and urged residents to provide tips, emphasizing community cooperation to track down the terrorists.
However, locals criticize the current security measures as insufficient, calling for reinforced patrols by the Amotekun Corps to deter further attacks in rural areas.
Additionally, the pattern of these raids highlights a growing threat from terrorists in Ondo State’s vulnerable communities, where quick escapes into nearby bushes complicate rescue efforts.
As investigations continue, authorities promise heightened vigilance to restore safety and bring the perpetrators to justice.
