Terrorists stormed the Makeke Maternity/Health Centre in Edo State on Sunday evening, abducting a nurse and three others in a bold attack that underscores escalating insecurity.
The terrorists seized the nurse on duty along with three additional victims around 8:00 p.m. and fled into the night.
Residents in the Ososo Zone of Akoko-Edo Local Government Area raised alarms, but authorities were nowhere to be found.
“Kidnapping of about four people just happened at Makeke Maternity/Health Centre today, February 8, 2026, at about 8:00 pm, the nurse on duty and three other persons were abducted and taken away,” a local resident said.
The location’s vulnerability amplified the threat. Akoko-Edo borders Kogi and Ondo states, areas notorious for terrorist activities.
Perpetrators exploit these porous boundaries as escape routes and hideouts, evading capture after strikes.
The police spokesperson, ASP Eno Nkereuwem Ikoedem, didn’t respond to calls and messages, fuelling community frustration.
Residents feel abandoned amid repeated attacks.
This raid fits a disturbing pattern of violence targeting healthcare workers in Edo State.
Terrorists abducted doctors in Auchi weeks earlier, leading to strikes and protests by medical professionals.
Earlier that day, authorities arrested suspects who kidnapped a doctor and murdered his brother, after the perpetrators sought treatment at the victim’s hospital.
The attack disrupted vital health services and deepened fears in Makeke.
Locals demand urgent government intervention to curb the terrorist menace.
“Even the lives of those that save lives ain’t safe,” one commenter lamented.
“Is Tym for Bola to Resign. Bandits and Criminals have taken over the Security of this country,” another said.
“All these Nurses and Doctors should leave Edo State Auchi until they fixed the insecurity,” a third warned.
