Terrorists killed two people and injured three others near Plateau Polytechnic in Jos South late on Wednesday.
The attack took place in Ban community, opposite the institution, around 11pm.
Terrorists fired shots unchallenged for nearly an hour.
Students who live in the area abandoned their lodges and ran to safety.
James Nanbut, a student at the polytechnic, described the scene.
“It was a night of buzzing guns,” he said.
“These guys kept firing unchallenged for almost an hour. We had to find ways to escape.”

He confirmed the incident and called on residents in Kwi, Wereng and neighbouring communities to stay alert and take precautions.
Officials from the Plateau State Police Command did not respond to requests for comment.
Earlier that evening, terrorists killed 27-year-old Amos Monday along the road between Baten village in Wereng Ward and Du’a village in Kwi Ward in Riyom Local Government Area.
These attacks add to the pattern of insecurity in Riyom, Jos South and Barkin Ladi areas of Plateau State.
Residents in the region continue to express concern over the lack of immediate security response.
