Terrorists killed three police officers and the chairman of a local vigilante group in Tordamisa community, Donga Local Government Area of Taraba State.
A resident raised the alarm after terrorists struck Tse Kwe village in the area.
The Divisional Police Officer of Donga then led a team of officers and special force operatives to the scene to restore order.
When the team arrived, terrorists opened fire.
The officers returned fire and repelled the terrorists.
In the exchange, terrorists killed Corporal Raphael Danjuma, Police Constable Ebenezer Daniel and Police Constable Samuel Bawa.
Officers first reported Police Constable Samuel Bawa missing, but search teams later found his body in a nearby bush.
Terrorists also killed Nutsa Tyav, the 60-year-old chairman of the vigilante group in Tordamisa village.
Teams recovered his body after the attack.
The Taraba State Police Command confirmed the details in a statement on Thursday.
The Commissioner of Police, Betty Enepen Isokpan Otimenyin, offered condolences to the families of the victims and said their sacrifice would not go to waste.
Afterwards, the command reinforced security in the area.
Officers continue operations to track down and arrest the terrorists responsible.
The command also called on residents to stay calm and pass on any useful information to help the investigation.
