Terrorists killed one resident and abducted several others during a late-evening raid on Belen Lafiya community in Bauchi State on Sunday one day after kidnap of cleric’s wives and daughters
The fresh assault struck Pali District in Alkaleri Local Government Area and sent shockwaves through already terrified villages.
Residents described how armed terrorists stormed the community under cover of darkness, opened fire, and vanished with captives before security forces could respond.
Moreover, this attack unfolded less than 24 hours after terrorists targeted the home of a prominent religious leader in the same local government area.
On Saturday night around 10:34 p.m., terrorists invaded the residence of Chief Imam Abubakar Muhammad Digare of Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa Iqamatus Sunnah (JIBWIS) in Digare town.
They forced their way inside, created chaos with gunshots, and seized four female family members: Rukayya Junaidu, 19; Nafisa Zubairu, 19; Safiya Imam Lata, 18; and Maryam Dadalliya, 30.
The terrorists also carted away two black Tecno mobile phones.
Furthermore, the Imam himself escaped harm by fleeing to safety as the attackers approached his room.
Councillor Hon. Buba Jauro, who represents Digare Ward, recounted the panic that gripped the town.
“We first heard a gunshot, then another, and assumed it was security personnel,” he explained.
“But moments later, several more gunshots rang out, and we realised it was an attack. People rushed indoors for safety.”
In response, Bauchi State Police spokesperson SP Nafiu Abubakar confirmed the details and revealed swift action by security agencies.
A joint team of police, army, and local vigilantes rescued two victims—Lawiza Abubakar, 35, and Musa Abdullahi, 10—unharmed during an intensive operation.
Commissioner of Police CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu has now directed intensified efforts to free the remaining captives and arrest the terrorists.
Additionally, a security alert issued by analyst Bakatsine on Monday highlighted the back-to-back incidents as part of a dangerous escalation in Alkaleri LGA.
The rapid sequence of raids has left families shattered, communities on edge, and residents questioning how terrorists continue to operate with such impunity in the region.
As fear spreads across northern Bauchi, locals demand immediate and decisive intervention to restore safety before more lives fall to these relentless terrorists.
