Terrorists unleashed terror on Kasuwan Daji market in Borgu, killing at least 30 people, and abducting scores of others, mostly women and children.
The attackers, armed with guns and blades, stormed the market, firing indiscriminately and hacking victims as shoppers scrambled for cover.
They looted goods worth millions of naira before torching the entire market.
Eyewitnesses described the harrowing scenes, stating that attackers tied up victims and slaughtered them “like goats and chickens,” turning a bustling community hub into a bloodbath.
The assault unfolded in Demo village, near Papiri, a site of a notorious school abduction last year.
The terrorists emerged from Kainji Lake National Park, exploiting weak border controls with Benin and Niger republics.
The death toll rose to 42 across nearby communities, marking this as one of the deadliest strikes in a week of unrelenting raids.
Bola Ahmed Tinubu condemned the “barbaric” attack and mobilized top security officials to act.
“These monsters must face the full consequences,” he declared, vowing no safe haven for perpetrators.
Niger State Police confirmed the casualties and assured joint teams had secured the scene, with rescue operations underway.
This latest outrage highlights Nigeria’s escalating security crisis, with terrorists abducting over 500 people and killing more than 200 in Niger State since 2023.
Communities mourn as authorities face pressure to fortify borders and reclaim control.
