Terrorists from the Islamic State in the Greater Sahara killed 12 Nigerian soldiers and a civilian driver when they ambushed a military convoy in Niger’s Tahoua region on 11 March.
The fighters struck the soldiers along the road between Yaya and Tahoua near Bagga village.
Around 50 troops from the 42nd Infantry Battalion and the Rapid Security Brigade travelled in seven vehicles at the time.
Authorities had sent the soldiers to reinforce the area after terrorists sabotaged a pipeline there days earlier.
Seven more soldiers went missing in the attack.
The incident comes amid continued threats from the group across parts of the Sahel.
Nigerien officials have not yet released an official statement on the losses.
