Terrorists Kidnap Two Passengers, Shoot Driver on Taraba-Benue Border
Terrorists abducted two passengers from a commercial bus along the volatile Taraba-Benue border on Thursday and shot the driver in the hand during the brazen highway attack.
The incident occurred at the Kasuwan Shanu Jootar axis when the armed group ambushed a Sharon bus registered in Lagos (LSR 445 XT) carrying nine passengers.
The attackers opened fire, wounding the 45-year-old driver before forcing two victims into the bush.
Troops from the Nigerian Army’s 6 Brigade responded swiftly to the scene.
Upon arrival, soldiers recovered the abandoned vehicle and immediately evacuated the injured driver to Wukari Teaching Hospital for treatment.
An intensive search and rescue operation continues in the area to locate and free the kidnapped individuals.
The attack highlights ongoing security challenges along Nigeria’s Middle Belt highways, where such ambushes disrupt travel and endanger lives despite recent military operations that rescued over 230 kidnap victims nationwide in January 2026.
Authorities urge travelers to exercise caution on inter-state routes while security forces intensify patrols to curb terrorist activities in the region.
