Terrorists abducted nine residents from Chacho community in Wurno Local Government Area of Sokoto State on Wednesday night.
The attack took place around 11pm. Residents say they slept outside when the alarm sounded and gunfire rang out across the village.
Everyone ran to find safety. One resident recalled the moment.
“We were sleeping outside when the alarm was raised. Everyone started running for safety.
We could hear gunshots from different parts of the village.”
Reports state the terrorists took mostly women and elderly men.
Two other people received injuries and now receive medical care.
The Sokoto State Police Command confirmed the incident on Friday.
Spokesperson Ahmad Rufai says officers moved quickly to the area.
He adds that teams now work on the ground and continue investigations to confirm details.
Rufai notes the command stays focused on the rescue.
He calls on residents to stay alert and work with security agencies.
He also urges members of the public to share any information that can help the operation.
The incident adds to concerns in the northwest region where similar attacks occur from time to time.
Police say they keep efforts in place to protect communities.
