Peter Obi, former Anambra State governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, hands over a ₦15 million cheque to the College of Nursing Sciences at St. Charles Borromeo Hospital in Onitsha, strengthening healthcare training amid Nigeria’s challenges.

Peter Obi arrives at the college and immediately engages with cheering nursing students and staff.

He presents the substantial donation, emphasizing nurses’ pivotal role as the backbone of any effective healthcare system.

Moreover, Obi urges the students to embrace discipline, excellence, and selfless service in their studies.

He shares a compelling personal story from a recent Lagos-to-Asaba flight, where a trained health professional swiftly manages a young girl’s mid-air medical emergency, highlighting the life-saving impact of skilled nurses.

Furthermore, Obi contrasts Nigeria’s low health insurance coverage—estimated at around 5%—with Indonesia’s impressive over 95%, calling for urgent, deliberate government investment in healthcare infrastructure and accessibility.

This latest gesture continues Obi’s consistent philanthropy in education and health sectors.

Throughout 2025, he has donated millions to various nursing colleges and institutions across Nigeria, including similar ₦15 million contributions earlier in the year.

In addition, Obi encourages other affluent Nigerians to support educational and healthcare facilities, stressing that collective efforts will build a stronger nation.

College administrators express profound gratitude, noting how the funds will enhance training facilities and resources for future nurses.

Ultimately, Obi’s actions underscore his commitment to human capital development, aligning with his vision for a healthier, more equitable Nigeria.
