The International Human Rights Commission Relief Fund Trust warned President Tinubu that petrol now costs 970 naira per litre and this adds to problems for people across Nigeria.
Country director Abdullahi Bakoji Adamu released the statement on Monday.
He pointed out that Nigeria produces oil and holds refining capacity yet domestic fuel prices keep rising.
As a result many citizens struggle to see why the cost goes up despite the resources at hand.
The group added that people expect the nation’s natural resources to bring relief and shared benefits.
In addition the organisation said the wellbeing of Nigerians must stay at the centre of how leaders manage those resources.
It called on the government to move with speed and openness on the issue.
Furthermore the group asked members of the National Assembly to examine the situation and take steps to deal with it.
The statement comes as households face higher transport costs and food prices tied to the fuel changes.
