Terrorism deaths in Nigeria increased 46 percent to 750 last year and moved the country to fourth place on the 2026 Global Terrorism Index.
The Institute for Economics and Peace released the report this week.
Terrorists from Boko Haram and ISWAP carried out the attacks that drove the higher death toll in northern and central Nigeria.
This activity pushed Nigeria ahead of several other nations in the ranking.
The country sat in sixth place the year before.
As a result only three countries now stand above it on the list.
Meanwhile terrorism deaths around the world dropped 28 percent overall.
Sub-Saharan Africa still accounts for 48 percent of the global total.
The numbers highlight the continued presence of terrorists in the region.
Officials continue efforts to counter the groups yet the figures show the impact remains high.
