Terrorists killed at least 15 residents in Ojatele community of Apa LGA in Benue State on Friday afternoon.
The terrorists arrived with cattle and opened fire on people who came back from their farms.
A resident called reporters from Makurdi and explained how the shooting started.
He said the terrorists saw women and children return from cashew farms and began shooting right away.
After the attack, locals recovered 15 bodies and rushed 11 injured people to hospital in Ugbokpo, the Apa LGA headquarters.
The resident added that the number could have grown higher, but many ran away in time.
Several others still remain missing.
Another resident named Abu Abel then confirmed the same details.
He said the community now sits empty and called on the government to send help right away.
He pointed out that no security exists in the area and that the victims had simply gone out to find food for their families.
Meanwhile, Apa LGA chairman Adams Ochega verified the incident but noted he could not share full information yet because he had traveled for official work.
At the time of this report, the Benue State Police Command had issued no statement, and officials could not reach the police spokesperson for comment.
