Armed terrorists slay four young victims in Dorong village amid escalating tensions over cattle rustling and poisoning.
Armed men suspected to be Fulani terrorists stormed Dorong village in Foron District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area early Thursday, killing four children in a brutal reprisal attack.
The victims — Precious Joshuah, 17; Isa’ac Joshuah, 9; Mary Joshuah, 7; and Eve Sambo, 3 lost their lives as attackers targeted the community, plunging residents into grief and fear.
However, this violence did not erupt in isolation.
Just days earlier, gunmen rustled at least 168 cattle from pastoral communities across Barkin Ladi, Jos East, and Riyom local government areas.
In one incident, assailants drove away 137 cattle from Nding community in Fan District.
Meanwhile, in Kukukah community, thieves stole 34 cows, with only three later recovered.
Then, nine cows died after grazing on poisoned substances near Kwi village in Riyom, intensifying anger among herders.
Consequently, tensions soared, and residents warned of imminent retaliation.
A local community leader, speaking anonymously, confirmed the Dorong assault unfolded in the predawn hours, catching villagers off guard.
Furthermore, security analyst Zagazola Makama highlighted the pattern: coordinated strikes on herders preceded the deadly response, fueling a familiar cycle of vengeance in Nigeria’s volatile Middle Belt region.
In addition, this incident underscores the persistent farmer-herder clashes that have plagued Plateau State for years.
Resource competition, ethnic divisions, and weak security responses continue to drive bloodshed, displacing thousands and claiming countless lives.
As a result, authorities deployed operatives to the area to prevent further escalation, though no official statement has emerged on arrests or investigations.
Meanwhile, calls mount for decisive action to address cattle rustling, livestock poisoning, and retaliatory killings alike.
Ultimately, without accountability and intervention, experts warn Plateau risks deeper spirals of violence, sparing neither women nor children in its grip.
