Armed terrorists shot and killed Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officer Ibrahim Dalhatu Tafoki on Tuesday evening, then stole his motorcycle in a brazen attack along the Funtua–Tafoki road in Katsina State’s Faskari LGA.
The assault occurred in the Tafoki axis as the officer rode his motorcycle, possibly on routine duty or patrol.
Terrorists ambushed him, opened fire, and fled with the two-wheeler, leaving his body on the road.
Ibrahim Dalhatu Tafoki served as a dedicated member of a family deeply rooted in public service.
He was the younger brother of Rt. Hon. Shehu Dalhatu Tafoki, the Member of the House of Representatives representing Kankara–Faskari–Sabua Federal Constituency.
Moreover, he was the son of the Tafoki traditional leader, Alhaji Dalhatu Tafoki.
This tragic killing strikes at a particularly sensitive moment.
Local mediators and authorities recently brokered peace accords and reconciliation initiatives with armed groups in the Faskari area.
These efforts had freed several captives and temporarily reduced violence.
However, the ambush exposes the fragility of such dialogues and fuels widespread doubt about their long-term effectiveness.
Residents of Tafoki and surrounding communities now demand stronger security measures, including increased patrols along the vulnerable Funtua–Tafoki corridor, which has seen repeated attacks in recent months.
The northwest region, including Katsina, continues to grapple with banditry, where armed groups frequently use motorcycles for swift raids on roads and villages.
As of December 24, 2025, neither the FRSC, state security agencies, nor the Katsina government had issued an official statement on the incident.
Community leaders and security analysts urge immediate action to protect lives and restore confidence in ongoing peace initiatives.
